How
to listen to sound samples at Itofarm and Itofarm Store
There are 2 possibilities of listening to
the preview samples of each song:
1. The
audio flash player, which is embedded in the different album pages.
Here´s a picture with some explanations how to operate this
player: |
 |
Instead
of using the "Start/Stop Play" button, you might also
start a track by clicking directly on its name.
To use this player, "Flash" must
be installed as a plug-in to your browser. As "Flash"
is used worldwide on countless websites, it is probably already
installed on your computer. If this player is not working you might
check here. |
 |
2.
If you are in the shop, you can also listen to a preview track by
clicking the loudspeaker symbol right next to the corresponding track
. This way
you activate a regular .m3u playlist of the track and your default
music player of your computer should automatically start to stream
and play the sound sample. |

What
is MP3?
MP3 is a popular file format for compressed
audio. The music at Itofarm is available for purchase in MP3 format
encoded at a rate of 256kbps. MP3s will play in all modern audio
players for every computer platform. Most current CD players support
MP3 CDs with MP3 instead of standard audio files. The MP3 format
is the recommended purchase format for all users. |
|
What
is FLAC?
FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is a file
format which offers CD quality audio. FLAC compresses standard audio
files (WAV or AIFF) to half their normal size with no loss in sound
quality. This is different from MP3 which is a lossy compression
format. With MP3s some of the data of the original audio file is
lost when the MP3 is encoded.
FLAC files are generally very large. A full
CD of music (~650 megabytes) will average about 300 megabytes worth
of FLAC files.
For this reason Itofarm recommends that only
users with broadband connections to the internet (Cable modem, DSL,
LAN) purchase and download FLAC files. Downloading a FLAC purchase
with a conventional 56kbps modem could take 75 hours!
FLAC files can be played using a handful of
free audio players. Generally, it is necessary to de-compress a
FLAC file to the standard WAV or AIFF format before playing or burning
to a CD. |
|
How
do I play FLAC files?
There are a limited
number of programs that will play FLAC files. In most cases,
you will need to decode FLAC files before playing them on a computer
or burning them to an audio CD. Decompressed FLAC files are identical
to the original full-quality .WAV or .AIFF audio files they were
created from.
There are a handful of portable
digital music players that will play FLAC files. Apple's iPod
is not one of them. Again, it is recommended that you decode FLAC
files before playing or burning. |
